ROBERT-HOUDIN, Jean Eugène. Theatre Robert-Houdin Souvenir Fan. Paris: Decan, ca. 1850. Pictorial paper souvenir fan distributed to attendees at the famous Theatre Robert-Houdin in Paris during the Cone of Abundance effect. The recto bears an engraving depicting the entrance to the famous magic theatre, the verso with vignettes of Robert-Houdin’s most famous tricks, including the Light and Heavy Chest and Orange Tree, with French verses describing them. Wooden ribs. 16" wide when open. RARE.
A variant of this ephemeral souvenir item distributed to patrons at the famous Parisian magic venue operated by Robert-Houdin and his successors. This example dates to the period during which the great "father of modern magic" himself performed at the venue, but is different in some respects than others that have been publicly offered in recent years, with differences in coloration and printing.
Near fine; about the best example we have encountered.
