Authentic Fendi Silk Shawl. Modernist patterning of squares and circles in pastel colors. Marked with the company and origin in one corner.
Size: 51 1/2 x 51 1/2 in.
Founded in Rome in 1925 by Adele Casagrange and Edoardo Fendi, Fendi began as a specialized fur and leather goods shop, expanding under their five daughters Paola, Anna, Franca, Carla, and Alda when they joined the company in 1946. Renowned for Roman craftsmanship and their burgeoning lines of ready-to-wear clothing, shoes, fragrances, eyewear, and even timepieces and home accessories, they revolutionized fashion by appointing Karl Lagerfeld as creative director in 1965, who created the iconic inverted “FF” logo (Fun Furs) and oversaw nearly every aspect of the brand for six decades. The brand saw over half of its revenue come from leather goods and accessories by the early 1990s, and in 1999 Prada and LVMH acquired majority control to prevent a Gucci takeover, with Fendi officially becoming part of LVMH in 2001. Under LVMH, the brand continued expanding globally, opening branded condos and hotels, while the last Fendi family member sold her stake in 2008. Karl Lagerfeld passed away in 2019, and Fendi celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2025 with over 3,000 employees, 215 stores, and a reputation for dressing movie stars, celebrities, and heads of state worldwide.
