Yoshida Hiroshi (1876–1950) Japanese, Woodblock Print. Titled "Kajiyashiki". Beautiful color woodblock print of a landscape overlooking a rocky shore and small village, a snow-topped mountain fading into the far background. Titled in Japanese on right, artist's stamp lower right. Pencil signed lower left.
Overall Size: 11 x 16 1/4 in.
Sight Size: 7 x 9 1/2 in.Yoshida Hiroshi (1876–1950) was a Japanese painter and printmaker renowned for his role in the shin-hanga (“new prints”) movement, which revitalized traditional woodblock printing by incorporating Western techniques of perspective, shading, and color. Born in Kurume, Fukuoka, he trained in Western-style painting before turning to woodblock prints, producing landscapes, cityscapes, and depictions of rural Japan with meticulous detail and atmospheric depth. His work is celebrated for its harmonious color palettes, serene compositions, and ability to convey both the character of a place and the mood of a moment, earning him international recognition and placement in major museum collections worldwide.
