Java, circa 13-14th century, the well and thinly cast hanging lamp with square base pan with 4 fonts, flanked by thinly cast, reticulated floral scrolls framing a deity, possibly Kashyapa, riding on his son, Garuda, who stands with outsized wings on an openwork platform fronted by a crouching demon(?) figure. A rare and important example. Losses as shown. Ht. 9 3/4 in. not including chain. Cf. a related example in the Museum National, Jakarta, inv. No. 1073a. See 'The Sculpture Of Indonesia', page 251.
