Java, Eastern Javanese period, circa 13th-14th century, the ritual holy-water vessel with high tapering neck and characteristic projecting spout in the form of a fanciful serpent (naga). As is custom, the fill hole is behind the naga's head and the liquid is poured through a hole at the top. Good condition with wear and minor flaws. Excellent deep patina. Ht. 9 3/4 in.
