Milne Bay Province, Trobriand Islands, Papua New Guinea, late 19th century, the crouching figure with knees bent and hands to the chin, the head with large round eyes and slit, upturned mouth, dark smooth patina, mounted on a custom base. Ht. 7, with base 8 1/2 in.
