Marked: lockplate is marked "E. WHINEY / U.S." forward of the hammer and "N.HAVEN / 1850" BEHIND THE HAMMER; barrel is marked "US / SM / V / P" and "STEEL" on left barrel flat, also small "M" on left barrel flat; "US" mark on buttplate tang; "W" on barss parts; "GW" cartouche and "WAT" (William A. Thornton) cartouche on left side of stock; "1850" marked on upper tang
