Vintage Mexican folk art nagual (from Nahuatl word nahualli meaning "shaman in disguise") dance mask, with hand-painted stiff leather construction, animal horns, and horse hair fibers, strung for hanging circa 1960s-70s
height 15.5 in. x width 12 in. x depth 5 in.
Provenance: The Estate collection of late teacher and humanitarian Douglas Rhodenbaugh, from his historic downtown Austin, Texas home. Mr. Rhodenbaugh spent decades traveling throughout Latin America assuming his vast collection of folk and fine arts, often buying pieces directly from the artisans he met on his travels.
