TOWSON, MD - September 2, 2020 - Baltimore-based Auctioneer Alex Cooper will host a one day Specialty Asian Auction on Thursday, September 17th, dedicated to the arts of Asia.

Lot 200, Highly Important Tibetan Gilt Bronze Seated Buddha, 16th century or earlier

The auction is headlined by a highly important, richly gilded bronze Tibetan seated Buddha dating from the 16th century or earlier.  The Buddha is from the stunning Asian collection of the Estate of Robert and Nancy Hall of Baltimore. Proceeds from the sale of the Buddha will benefit the Robert and Nancy Hall Brain Research Fund at Johns Hopkins Hospital.  Successfully offered at auction at Alex Cooper in March of 2020, the work failed to transfer to the buyer due to  financial restrictions  preventing the release of funds from China. The Buddha appears as Lot 200 and is offered with an auction estimate of $800,000-$1,200,000.

“We are very  honored to present this outstanding piece and are thrilled to have it in on display in our gallery,” said Paul Cooper, Vice President of Alex Cooper. “We look forward to helping this impressive work find its new home.”

The Asian Auction will begin promptly at 12 noon EST; on Thursday, September 17th. The auction will take place at Alex Cooper Auctioneers, located at 908 York Road in Towson, Maryland and live, online via Bidsquare.com
