Arts Foundation of Cape Cod to Hold Art Auctions to Support Cape Cod Arts Relief Fund

Jun 02,2021 | 13:40 EDT By Arts Foundation of Cape Cod

May 25, 2021 (Hyannis, MA) – As the region’s creative economy slowly starts to recover from the pandemic, the Arts Foundation of Cape Cod (AFCC) will be helping to expedite that process with two auctions to support the Cape Cod Arts Relief Fund.

“The public has a chance to bring home stunning pieces of artwork created by some of the Cape’s most talented creatives. We also have some really cool experiences that you won’t find anywhere else, from hosting a concert featuring musician G. Love in your backyard to a pair of tickets to Fashion Week in New York City,” said AFCC Executive Director Julie Wake. “In the process, people will be supporting the relief fund, which provides critical financial assistance to local artists and cultural organizations that have been impacted by the pandemic.”

The AFCC’s live auction,  the Prelude to Summer, will be held on Thursday, June 17th at 5 pm at the Hyannisport Club. The event will also be live streamed on the auction platform Bidsquare.

During the evening, the AFCC will pay tribute to Joseph Carr, Napa Valley vintner and founder of Josh Cellars, as the event’s honorary chair to recognize his long-standing support of arts and culture, especially on Cape Cod.

Mindy Todd, host and executive director of "The Point" on WCAI, will be the guest speaker.

Along with the private G. Love concert and tickets to New York City’s Fashion Week, the live auction will feature a painting by 2016 Pops by the Sea Artist Cleber Stecei; a weekend away at the Modern Trust’s Kugel Gips House during Oysterfest in Wellfleet; and this year’s commemorative Pops by the Sea artwork, Harmony, created by artist Carl Lopes.

Last month, the AFCC unveiled Lopes’s piece at the Cape Cod Museum of Art in Dennis. In his typical style, the piece is bright and colorful, depicting the outline of a conductor against the backdrop of waves, notes, and piano bars, all in the shape of a seashell. “I tried to create a piece that really was pulling at the Cape, in terms of its personality, together with the joy of music,” Lopes said. “I took the special elements of the Cape and turned them into patterns that represent music. I think this piece is going to make people smile and bring people joy.”

Anyone interested in attending either the live auction or signing up for the silent auction can do so at the AFCC’s website, www.artsfoundation.org, or contact AFCC Director of Development Amy Tuttle at atuttle@artsfoundation.org.

The AFCC’s Silent Auction kicks off on Thursday, June 3rd and runs through Sunday, June 20th. There are over 40 pieces of artwork created by Cape artists and 8 exciting experiences up for bid in the silent auction.

Participating artists include Heather Blume of Harwich Port, Jackie Reeves of Sandwich, Sarah Holl of Dennis, Jon Friedman of Truro, Alan Trugman of Yarmouth Port, Jo Hay of Provincetown, and Jackie deRuyter of Brewster.

Experiences up for bid range from a round of golf for four at the Hyannisport Club to a 3-night stay in Charleston, South Carolina to a champagne lunch with best-selling author Anne LeClaire (Listening Below the Noise, The Halo Effect, The Law of Bound Hearts).

Sponsors for the AFCC’s art auctions are the Keller Company of Hyannis, RESCOM Architectural of Bourne, William Raveis, Josh Cellars, Dellbrook/JKS, The Cooperative Bank of Cape Cod, and RogersGray.

Businesses interested in serving as a sponsor should contact Amy Tuttle at atuttle@artsfoundation.org.
