WINCHESTER, VA – Early American History Auctions, Inc. is proud to announce a major auction of authentic historic collectibles, scheduled to close on Saturday, April 18, 2026, at 12:00 PM Eastern Time. This date marks the 251st anniversary of Paul Revere’s famous ride and the subsequent start of the Revolutionary War.

The auction features an extensive array of rarities from multiple distinguished consignors, including the estate of the late Ambassador J. William (Bill) Middendorf II. The collection spans the American Colonial Period, the Revolutionary War, and the Civil War, offering significant items for collectors and historians alike.

Revolutionary War Documents: Featured items include a rare 1765 pamphlet, “THE RIGHTS OF THE BRITISH COLONIES Asserted and proved" by James Otis (Est. $8,000–$12,000), and two 1776 autograph letters from John Bradford to John Hancock regarding American privateers (Est. $8,000–$12,000).
Benjamin Franklin Artifacts: Two high-quality 1787 land sale deeds signed by Benjamin Franklin, each featuring a large, bold signature and flourish (Est. $15,000–$20,000 each).
Black History Rarities: A handwritten receipt from 1794 signed by Samuel Fraunces, also known as “Black Sam,” a Black Revolutionary War patriot spy who saved George Washington’s life and served as his household steward (Est. $22,000–$28,000).
George Washington Memorabilia: A unique hand-painted contemporary memorial silk ribbon featuring a funeral urn and the initials “GW” (Est. $2,400–$3,600).
Currency and Postage: The sale includes 75 lots of Colonial and Continental Currency, as well as 50 rare Civil War-era encased postage stamps used as emergency currency, highlighted by the finest known “Arthur M. Claflin” one-cent merchant type (Est. $15,000–$20,000).
American Civil War & Lincoln: Collectors will find several Union soldier ID dog tags and an exceedingly rare original silver Abraham Lincoln 2nd Presidential U.S. Mint Medal (Est. $20,000–$30,000).
