Millea Bros Spring "Select" 3-day Auction Presents Remarkable Collections of Art, Design, and Antiques

[Boonton, NJ] – May 1, 2024 – Millea Bros is thrilled to announce its upcoming Spring "Select" 3-day auction, scheduled to run from May 15 to May 17. This auction promises an extraordinary array of art, design, and antiques, including a museum-quality Contemporary Art Collection, property from the Estate of Barbara Walters, and art and artifacts from the studio of the renowned artist Philip Pearlman.

Day 1 of the auction showcases modern and contemporary art and designs, featuring over 75 works from a significant private New York Collection. Assembled by a dedicated patron of the arts during the vibrant era of the 1980s-2000s New York City art scene, this collection boasts major works by acclaimed artists such as Adam Fuss, Andre Serrano, Nancy Dwyer, and James Brown. Additionally, the auction offers a fine assortment of French Art Deco and Modern design pieces from a 115 Central Park West penthouse, including furniture by Jean-Michel Frank, Andre Sornay, Fontana Arte and Ico Parisi, alongside custom Contemporary designs by architect Annabelle Selldorf.  Other design highlights include works by Lucie Rie, Jean Royere, Karl Springer, Nakashima, and lighting by Emile-Jacque Ruhlmann, Arredoluce, and Maison Bagues.

Day 2 of the auction focuses on Asian, American, and British Art and Antiques. Highlights include exceptional Chinese porcelains, jades, and bronzes from a Sutton Place estate, as well as Asian artifacts from a New Jersey collection. This estate also features American Southern antiques including a remarkable Virginian Queen Anne high chest on frame, c. 1740. The Estate of Barbara Walters includes objects acquired from a lifetime of travel, offering furnishings by Mario Buatta, a library of signed books, and mementos from dignitaries and world leaders.  A group of Tiffany Studios stained glass lamps are offered alongside important examples of 19th c. Tiffany silver. Property from the esteemed painter Philip Pearlstein, includes American country antiques, his collection of American realist paintings, and a selection of Asian and Native American artifacts. A group of Pacific Northwest objects features a fine Tlingit ceremonial blanket.


Day 3 concludes the auction with a captivating array of Continental Art & Antiques, and African and Oceanic tribal art. An eclectic selection of artwork spanning Old Masters to Post-Impressionist includes a life-size Circle of Bernini carton drawing for an Italian fresco. A Jean Dufy painting with Sotheby’s provenance, joins a large collection of signed period Louis XVI furniture and decorative arts from a fine 710 Park Avenue estate. 19th c. African and Oceanic art from the prestigious collections of Martin and Faith-Dorian Wright includes a magnificent 19th c. Northern New Ireland Malagan sculpture with museum provenance.

Auctions and previews will be held at the Millea Bros. gallery located at 607 Myrtle Avenue, Boonton, New Jersey.
