Lambertville, NJ - On Saturday, November 10, 2018, Rago will hold auctions of American + European Art and Post-War + Contemporary Art

Included among the more than 700 lots of paintings, prints, sculptures, photographs and works on paper are three segments of single-owner collections: The Collection of Joshua P. Smith (Part Three); Tierras y Materias: Works from the Collection of Clara Diament Sujo; and works from the Allan Stone Collection.

Joshua P. Smith (1942-2005) made collecting, curating, and caring for art his life’s work. This third installment of his collection includes over 100 lots, with works by Sigmar Polke, Luc Tuymans, Hiroshi Sugimoto and more.

A session from the personal collection of celebrated art critic, dealer and collector, Clara Diament Sujo, entitled Tierras y Materias, attests to Sujo’s curatorial eye, with works from Jose Gamarra, Carlos Merida, Elsa Gramcko and other modern and contemporary artists from Latin America.

The third single-owner session comes from the eminent art dealer and collector Allan Stone, who amassed an art collection unrivaled in diversity and depth. Highlights from this session include works by Bo Bartlett, James Havard, a portfolio by Tiber Press and more.

“This sale has so many great pieces to offer, but I’m particularly impressed with the strength and variety of prints. The American + European auction includes important editions representing a variety of movements from Ashcan to Regionalism to Modernism. I’m particularly fond of John Marin’s ‘Brooklyn Bridge No. 6 (Swaying)’, an extremely rare find and a definitive American Modernist work.”
- Lauren Bradley; Specialist, Fine Art

"We are honored that so many private collectors have given us the opportunity to bring the best works from their collections to market.  From Sotter to Sturtevant, these works have been privately held for decades by the original owners." - Meredith Hilferty; Director, Fine Art
