SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, CA, FEBRUARY 25, 2020 – Turner Auctions + Appraisals is pleased to present Russian & European Fine and Decorative Arts on Saturday, March 14, 2020. The online auction features a diverse selection of 335 artworks, antiques and collectibles, sourced from various collectors and estates. In addition to Russia and Europe, other areas of the world are represented as well, including China, Japan, Bali, Africa, and the American Southwest.

Lot 57, Leon Schulman Gaspard (1882-1964). Subject/Title: Peasant group, Russia; Estimate $7,000-$9,000

Artworks in sale include those from the 17th-20th centuries in various media and types: oil, watercolor, etchings, lithographs, posters and sculptures. Among the highlights are works of Russia or attributed to Russian artists, 18th-century paintings of saints and other religious subjects, and Tibetan thangka. There are also a number of porcelain painted portrait plaques, and other porcelain pieces from Sèvres, Dresden and Lladró. The auction's many Meissen pieces include decorative and serving pieces, tableware, and figurines.

Lot 213, 19th century Japanese woodblock diptych; Estimate $500-$700

The wide selection of decorative arts features continental vases; a Baccarat art glass sculpture; art pottery; a giant clam shell; duck decoys; masks from Bali, Nepal and Africa; Mughal and Balinese paintings; antique books; a pistol and bayonet; and Asian and Middle Eastern rugs. From China are Buddha, stone carvings, jars, vases, bowls, jewelry boxes, cinnabar, snuff bottles, boxes, calligraphy, screens, scrolls, hardstone trees, and more. From Japan are collector's plates and woodblock prints, including Toshi Yoshida. From the Southwest are Native American baskets, carvings and kachina dolls. Among other lots are Franklin Mint cameos, sterling animal plates and an etching; guardian figures; pewter classic cars; presidential coins and ingots; crystal and mineral specimens; daguerreotypes; Mexican pottery; postcards; and novelty images of San Francisco.
