Provenance: Frank W. Very, Allegheny Observatory (ownership inscription to front free endpaper); Joy M. Paseleoff, Williams College, Hopkins Observatory, 1996 (ownership inscription).
A comprehensive collection of reports on the 7 August 1869 total solar eclipse and the photographic expedition which was organized by Henry Morton under the authority of John H. C. Coffin of the United States Navy and Superintendent of the American Ephemeris and Nautical Almanac. Most notably, the volume features 10 interesting plates, most notably printing photographs taken at Burlington and Ottumwa, Iowa during the astronomical event.

Note: as no date is printed on the title page, there is variations in cataloging the date of publication. The "Supplementary Note by Professor Coffin" (pp. 157-158) is dated 1885, giving us a probable date of publication.
