An excellent collection of veteran's items from the 1887 and 1913 Gettysburg Reunions. Items include:
1. 1887 Pickett's Men 1887 Gettysburg Reunion gilt-printed white ribbon. 7 x 3/8 in.
Featuring the Virginia State seal printed in gold with the legend: "Pickett's / Men / 1863 1887 / July 3d. / Gettysburg".
The 1887 Gettysburg reunion featured the unveiling and dedication of the 69th Pennsylvania monument. The 69th was part of the famed Philadelphia Brigade, which played a key role in repulsing Pickett's Charge. In the spirit of reconciliation and unity, members of Pickett's Division, as well as General Pickett's widow, Sally, were invited to the proceedings.
2. 1887 Pickett's Division Gettysburg Reunion 2-piece brass and white medal badge. 1 1/2 x 2 1/8 in.
Spread-winged eagle and crossed cannons suspension bar. Medal shows a soldier bearing his rifle with the perimeter legend: "Reunion of Pickett's Div. Gettysburg, PA. / July 1887."
3. Five (5) snapshots of veterans and activities at a Gettysburg Reunion, almost certainly the 50th Anniversary Reunion held in 1913. Each captioned by a near-contemporary ink inscription to lower margin. Each approx. 5 5/16 x 3 1/8 in.
A. "Maryland Confederate Headquarters - Confederate Veterans - Confederate Flag." Three veterans sit outside a tent flanked by a Confederate battle flag and the Maryland state flag. Each has medals visible on their jackets. Captioned:
B. "The front yard of a private residence on Baltimore St. Four tents with stands with things for sale from lemonade to aluminum souvenirs."
C. "March of the Virginia Confederate Veterans in grey uniforms."
D. "Soldiers of the Blue and Gray freaternizing at the Virginia Headquarters - July 2." A group of veterans are gathered before a large banner bearing an American and a Confederate battle flag, reading, in part: "Head-Quarters Manassas National Jubilee / July 21, 1911"
E. "On[e] of the Confederate Veterans in Pickett's Charge and a Union soldier who met the famous charge at the Bloody Angle, clasping hands fifty years later."
