Peter Duval, "The Art of Glen Loathes" - Limited Edition 185/300 Signed. Limited edition copy numbered and signed by author. Lot includes binder with lithograph print.
Glen Loates (born Martin Glen Loates on May 19, 1945, in Toronto, Ontario) is a distinguished Canadian wildlife and landscape artist known for his meticulous, naturalistic style in watercolor, oil, pastels, and colored pencil. Encouraged from a young age by Frederick Henry Brigden, founder of the Canadian Society of Painters in Water Colour, Loates garnered early recognition—he was just 11 when he sketched the iconic yellow daffodil adopted by the Canadian Cancer Society as its emblem for over four decades. His work has earned international attention through invitations to scientific expeditions, publications, films, and exhibitions in institutions such as the Royal Ontario Museum, British Museum, McMichael Canadian Collection, Centre Culturel Paris, and the Alexander Koenig Museum. In 1982, Loates’s painting The Bald Eagle was presented to U.S. President Ronald Reagan in the Oval Office on behalf of Canada; other pieces have been gifted to Prince Philip and Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau. A dedicated conservationist, he participated in the National Geographic Society’s Beebe Project in the mid-1980s—diving deep-sea with scientists to document marine life—which informed works such as the mural at the Bermuda Underwater Institute.
