Three Northern California baskets representing the closely related basketry traditions of the Hupa, Yurok, and Karok peoples, whose ancestral homelands lie along the Trinity and lower Klamath Rivers of present-day Humboldt, Del Norte, and Siskiyou Counties. Woven of natural and dyed plant fibers using traditional techniques, the group includes a Hupa basket hat, a Yurok basket bowl, and a Karok basket bowl. Basketry was central to daily life throughout the region, serving practical, ceremonial, and trade purposes while reflecting generations of artistic and cultural continuity.
