- Lot Description
Two baskets representing the basketry traditions of Northern California. The Pit River basket was woven by the Achomawi and Atsugewi peoples of the Pit River basin in northeastern California, where coiled baskets were produced for gathering, storage, and daily use. The accompanying Karok basket originates from the middle Klamath River region of northwestern California, where basket weaving was a highly developed art using willow, hazel, and conifer root fibers to create durable vessels decorated with geometric designs in naturally dyed materials. Together, these baskets reflect two distinct regional traditions from Northern California.
Dimensions: Pit River: 11 x 11 x 7.5 in., high. Karok: 11 x 11 x 8.75 in., high.
Shipping: Free Sacramento pickup. Shipping via FedEx within the continental U.S. for $95 plus 1.5% insurance (unless waived in writing).
Condition
Overall good condition with light, expected wear from age and use. Minor scattered wear consistent with age.
