Towson, MD - Baltimore-based Auctioneer Alex Cooper will host a two-day Gallery Auction on Thursday, October 17 and Saturday, October 19, featuring an expansive collection of traditional, modern and contemporary art, fine jewelry, sterling silver, currency, fine rugs, period, mid-century modern, quality reproduction and period furniture, and decorative arts.
The auction is headlined by three distinctly different and very notable works of art. Lot 1010 offers a very important piece, Pierre-Paul Prud’hon’s portrait of Napoleon and his Son. Presented for the first time at auction and sporting an impeccable provenance, this museum quality work is not to be missed. An early work by Grace Hartigan, Washington Square, New York City, appears in lot 1015. The abstract cityscape was painted in 1955, purchased at a exhibition in New York City and boasts a continuous ownership by one family. Lastly, Ed Mell’s “Desert Clouds” is featured at lot 1034 as part of a southwest inspired collection owned by the law firm of Steptoe and Johnson, LLP.
“Alex Cooper strives to offer something for every art collector.” said Paul Cooper, Vice President of Alex Cooper. “These three special pieces highlight the breadth and scope of our offerings as we continue to help our buyers acquire beautiful and meaningful works of art.”
