Excavated solid-cast "CS" clipped corner rectangular belt buckle. Sand-cast brass. Three hooks to reverse. Buckle 2 7/8 x 1 7/8 in. Gavin 71-72; Kerksis 293; Mullinax 105-110.
A typical Western theater plate, with a pleasing patina evocative of its history. Gavin speculates that the attractive plates were fabricated for the Confederate Army of Tennessee after 1863, possibly in Columbus, Georgia. Originally, the plates featured a black enamel background.
