- Lot Description
A finely woven Mono Lake bottleneck basket executed in the distinctive gap stitch technique for which the Mono weavers of California’s eastern Sierra Nevada and Mono Basin are especially recognized. The graceful bottleneck form was traditionally used for storing and pouring seeds, water, and other provisions. Woven in tightly coiled construction of willow and sedge root with redbud bark providing the rich polychrome ornament, the basket features alternating stepped geometric motifs and broad decorative panels characteristic of Mono Lake basketry produced during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.
Dimensions: 13 x 7.5 in.
Shipping: Free Sacramento pickup. Shipping via FedEx within the continental U.S. for $85 plus 1.5% insurance (unless waived in writing).
Condition
Very good overall condition with tight weaving, sound form, and naturally mellow coloration consistent with age. No significant structural damage observed.
