HUDSON, NY November 17, 2023 – STAIR announces the upcoming auction The Collection of Ann and  Gordon Getty at STAIR: A Lifetime of Connoisseurship, Curiosity and Collecting to be offered as a three-day  sale on January 23, 24, and 25, 2024. The January sale will be followed by The Collection of Ann and Gordon  Getty at STAIR: A Confluence of 19th and 20th Century Design in February 2024.

Unparalleled in scope and refinement, the collection of Ann and Gordon Getty represents one of the most  esteemed and significant private collections in America. Mrs. Getty was known for her sophisticated layering  of antiques and textiles in her interiors, as well as her reverence for architectural integrity. Her singular taste,  imbued with Old World splendor, was showcased in her work as an interior designer for which she became  renowned. Over the course of decades, the Gettys amassed an extraordinary collection of museum-worthy  works of art, English and European furniture, decorative arts, and diverse treasures of the highest quality from  across the globe, many of which were sold at the recent series of successful Christie’s sales. The Collection of  Ann and Gordon Getty is full of wonder, discovery, and bold opulence steeped in historical references and a  freshness that illustrates Mrs. Getty’s remarkable eye.

Highlights in the January auction include English, French, and Continental furniture, European paintings as  well as Chinese and European porcelain, and exquisite objects for entertaining, as well as a plethora of other fine and decorative objects. The February auction will focus on the late 19th and early 20th-century decorative arts, from the early Aesthetic Movement through Art Deco, encompassing Mrs. Getty’s interest in collecting  for the interior at Temple of Wings.

“I was honored to work with the Getty family during my time at both Sotheby’s and STAIR Restoration.  Everything in the Getty home was done ‘just so’, and it absolutely rang true in every interior. Mrs. Getty was  patience and taste personified. Every room was more beautiful than the next and with some of the most  beautiful furniture that I've ever seen,” recalls Colin Stair. “Ann Getty was, without a doubt, one of America's  :

greatest self-taught decorators. What we really want to celebrate with these auctions is her design prowess,  down to every little detail, she really had an amazing eye and sense of design.”

The auction catalog will be available on on Friday, January 5, 2024. Proceeds from  both sales will be donated to charity.
