Biography: Paul Grimm was born in South Africa on January 11, 1891. As a young child, he showed an interest in drawing and art. The faculty of the Dusseldorf Royal Academy of Art presented him with a scholarship when he was eighteen years of age. After completing many years of study, he chose to move to Hollywood in 1919, and was hired by the movie industry to paint backdrops. Thirteen years later, in 1932, he moved to Palm Springs and opened a small studio and gallery. President Dwight Eisenhower, who was a part-time resident, often visited his studio. Paul Grimm gained his fame painting the desert scenes of Southern California. He died in Palm Springs in 1974.
