.54 caliber, 36" heavy octagonal barrel. The barrel has a hood front sight, with an adjustable rear sight. The rear sight has a unique figural serpent integrated into it, forward of the split dovetail. The barrel is stamped Auer / Louisville, KY. The patent breech is engraved and features a figural nipple bolster. The lock and hammer feature floral engravings, with the lock marked Auer / Louisville, KY. Opposite of the lock is a beautifully engraved serpent form sideplate. A lollipop sight is mounted on the tang. With double set triggers and an engraved three finger spur trigger guard. The trigger guard has an iron finial that extends all the way towards the forend cap, and includes a screw for a palmrest. The fancy grain walnut stock has a raised cheekpiece and a Swiss style buttplate. With German silver escutcheons and an ash ramrod.
The barrel has a plum patina. The stock has some scratches by the escutcheons on the right side, as well as a micro-crack below the serpent form sideplate, otherwise it is in good condition. The lollipop sight has been repaired. The bore and action are very good.
