c. 1770s Naval Ships Boarding Iron Pike Head
c. 1770 18th Century Revolutionary War Era, Naval Ships Boarding Iron Pike Head, Approximately 12" long, Choice Very Fine.
A very nice solid example of an early 18th century Iron Naval Boarding Pike Head in superior original condition. Its iron surface have original natural patina of deeper tone areas with lighter highlights. From its pointed tip to the wide, round flange where a wooden pole would be inserted and secured, measures just shy of a full 12" long. Two holes in the wider flange allowed for nails or pins to hold the wooden pole in place. These were formidable weapons that could be easily manipulated because of their compact size and light weight -- perfect for close combat aboard and between ships. Boarding pikes could be used as both offensive and defensive weapons on a ship during naval combat.
