  Unknown (19th century): Young girl with hen, calf and geese Book illustration, 1892, Chromolithograph

  Technique: Chromolithograph on Paper, mounted on Paper

  Inscription: Inscribed lower left within the printing plate: "Copyright 1895 by E. Nister", inscribed on the verso of the passe-partout: "Chromolitho 1892". To the right of the depiction accompanying text in pure Fraktur script: "Hardly does love arrive in the courtyard, / Big and small happily press on, / Mrs Hen runs as if not clever, / The little pigs all jump on both sides [...]". Lively depiction of a young girl surrounded by animals in the barn and on the pasture. In a large basket she carries greens to feed the calves, geese, chicks, pigs and chickens, which gather around her joyfully.

  Condition

  Very good condition. The sheet is minimally browned due to its age. The text on the right side of the sheet was separated from the image by a vertical folding of the sheet, which remains unaffected. The mount shows two minimal stains in the upper margin and is slightly rubbed in the lower left corner. The image with its freshly preserved colours makes a very good impression.
