- Lot Description
One graduated single strand pearl necklace with an anodized silver diamond set bead. 17.5" princess length, knotted with a silver 11.0mm lattice ball clasp containing 34 Tahitian cultured pearls, 10.5mm in size to 13.0mm in size. The pearls are black in color with a very good luster, round to near round and lightly blemished. Graded in the strand. Tahitian cultured pearls form in the large "Black Lipped" Pinctada Margaritifera oyster, which is about twice the size of the Japanese Akoya oyster. This warm water species from across the central and South Pacific Ocean is at home in the bays and lagoons of the islands and atolls of French Polynesia. Tahitian cultured pearl farmers generally raise their oysters in lagoons. Tahitian cultured pearls take from two to four years to form. Black pearls are known for their iridescent, vibrant, almost metallic natural colors, unique among saltwater cultured pearls. Though commonly called "Tahitian" pearls, they are actually gray, to a lighter or darker degree. Tahitian pearls have the unique ability to display a variety of colors at the same time, which can be seen glistening on their surface. Four illusion set tablet cut diamonds, measuring 4.00 - 2.50 x 0.70mm (depth est.) approximate total weight of 4 Stones = 0.14ct. The group consists of a mix of natural faint yellow, very light yellow and faint brown color diamonds. Graded in the setting. Clarity SI-2 to I-1 Eight illusion set tablet cut diamonds, measuring 3.00 - 2.50 x 0.70mm (depth est.) approximate total weight of 6 Stories = 0.18ct. The group consists of a mix of natural faint yellow, very light yellow and faint brown color diamonds. Graded in the setting. Clarity SI-2 to I-1 Each tablet diamond is bezel set and fitted over foil backs. This was a popular method of illusion setting in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. The final appearance of the diamond is that of a much larger stone, an illusion. Thirty-Four bead set single cut diamonds, measuring 1.40 - 1.00 x 0.72mm (depth est.) approximate total weight of 34 Stones = 0.25ct.
