Attributed to Jorge Salazar b. 1951 signed, dated 2011 mixed Media framed 60.3 x 50 cm 23.74 x 19.69 in , Catalogue Note Guadalajara-born Jorge Salazar (b. 1951) is an abstract Mexican painter residing in New York City since 1973. As a self-taught artist, he works chiefly with oil on canvas – however, this artwork is an unusual choice of mixed media including watercolour. His work deals with the aural value of human interaction. Kitty goes to market is a statement of Salazar’s irreverence for the constrictions of art academia. "Art for me, art is freedom”, the artist states. “You can do what you want. There are those who have the idea that the black does not work, that you cannot use it in watercolor. Of course, you can! I've proven it. You can be creative with anything you can think of. Anything, you can do anything." This is a piece for the radical collector who believes in art for art’s sake – nothing less, and nothing more. Provenance: From A Private Mexican Collection
