Craquelure with areas of paint loss, blistering with paint losses particularly to the forehead, multiple abrasions with paint losses. Varnish inconsistencies. Old retouch, more pronounced in the area of the chin and in the shadow of the nose. Bowing to the panel of about 1/2 inch, with old breaks at upper corners (measuring 4-1/2 to 5 inches across the diagonal of the corners) and some damage to the lower corners as well, panel with six small blocks serving as auxiliary supports. Many imperfections to the panel surface. Surface grime and accretions.
The work is not well fitted into its frame, which should be removed prior to transport.
