.48 caliber, 4" octagonal barrels. The top flat of each barrel is marked Joseph Cooper New York, and feature two gold inlaid bands at the breech with banknote style scroll engravings that extend onto the tang. The rear action locks are marked J. Cooper, and feature vine scroll engravings, as do the hammer and nipple bolster. The trigger guard and buttcap compartment are blued and scroll engraved on both pistols, and features a pineapple form finial of sterling silver. The pistols feature German silver escutcheons and forend caps, as well as an oval thumbprint. The stocks are fancy grain walnut and are checkered. The pistols include an ebony ramrod. The pistols are housed in a contemporary rosewood box that is fitted and includes several tools, a bullet mold, additional ramrods, a powder flask and measure and two compartments. Excellent overall condition throughout.
The barrels retain a beautiful patina that shows nearly all of their original early style barrel striping. The blueing is bright and present on the trigger guards and buttcaps. The wood is in mostly excellent condition on both pistols. The bores and actions are excellent.
