Adriano Altamira

Italian, born 1947. Adriano Altamira is an artist, contemporary art critic, and historian. Born in Milan, Altamira is a prominent figure of the Italian cultural and artistic scene. The artist started pursuing arts in the early 1970s. In 1972, Adriano Altamira presented his first solo exhibition in Italy. The same year he also held his solo foreign exhibit. After producing micro-sculptures for a brief period, Altamira switched to photography- a preferential medium for expression and an investigative tool. From this moment onwards, the artist launched himself amid younger generation conceptual artists with his research for Area di Coincidenza. Area di Coincidenza known as Coincidence Zone combined Altamira's critical-sociological strategy towards research with new media experimentation.

The artist has also written multiple books, among them prominent ones like the 6th volume of the manual Arte Nel Tempo (Art through time), Bompiani - 1991, The Century Unknown (The Unknown Century - 1997), and Area of ​​Coincidence (Coincidence zone - 2001). To date, Adriano Altamiras's artwork for sale has been at 45 solo exhibits. The artist has also participated in more than 200 exhibitions all over the world with other artists. His works mainly involve mixed media collages, photographs, and gelatin silver prints. Beginning from 1972, the artist also started a continuous collaboration with Nac magazine.

The artist has also published essays, presentations, interviews, and articles on The Arts, Flash Art, FMR, and Celestial Theme, as a theorist and critic.
