Austrian, 1862 - 1918. Gustav Klimt was a painter known for his symbolist style. He was among the leading personalities during the Vienna Secession movement. He later developed his own style mainly consisting of sensual drawings, which received criticism. One prominent example includes the paintings by Klimt for Vienna University's Great Hall ceiling, which were considered erotic. As a result, Klimt did not accept commissions for public artworks.
