Italian, 1933–1963. Piero Manzoni’s was best known for his provocative body of works, where he evidently announced his dissatisfaction with the nature of art objects. His most shocking work remains to be the Merda d'artista (Artist’s shit), a collection of sealed tin cans which he filled with his own feces. Later, during his career, he painted "Achrome", a series of paintings in neutral colors using wool, fiberglass, rabbit skin and other transparent apparatus. Manzoni was an Italian conceptual artist, born as Count Meroni Manzoni di Chiosca e Poggiolo in Italy, and never enjoyed any professional art training. He died a tragic death at the young age of 29 after suffering from a heart attack.
