H Stern jewelry designs are works of art characterized by bright and colorful gemstones set in elegant settings. As a result, the jewelry on offer is a collection of radically chic and sleek lines that are defined by a play with colors and shapes. Styles like these are intended to accentuate the beauty of each stone, including tourmaline, which is available in approximately 495 different hues. Hans Stern did not simply approve of this transition from a color-based legacy into a gold-centric future; he was an active participant in the process. In his work, Stern embodied the spirit of Brazil by capturing its free-spirited, colorful, and creative nature. Each creation at H. Stern comes with a piece of Brazilian art, architecture, and fashion infused into it as the designs continue to evolve over time.
Since its inception in 1945, H. Stern has been in control of every phase of jewelry creation - from sourcing the finest precious gems to designing and conceptualizing collections. The jeweler he founded in Rio de Janeiro went on to become one of the largest in Latin America and one of the most renowned globally. His jewelry company gained a reputation as Jewelers of the Caribbean by the late 1960s. When German-born Stern moved to Brazil, he found the vibrant colors and pulsing energy of the country fascinating and reflected those feelings in his golden years with aquamarine, amethyst, and topaz gems. With the help of the company Hans founded, Brazil's gem resources were harnessed for the manufacture of jewelry. Until his time, the jewelry industry was primarily concerned with diamonds, emeralds, and rubies. Thanks to H. Stern’s unique and striking pieces, Brazil is today a world-famous jeweler and produces almost half the colored gems in the world.
As he expanded his business outside of Brazil, he brought his vision of Brazilian design and gemstones to a broader audience with the creation of avant-garde gem-set jewelry. In 1963, he opened his very first jewelry store in the United States among the top jewelers on Fifth Avenue in New York City. He opened his first US store on New York City's Fifth Avenue among the top jewelry brands in 1963. During the 1970s, Frankfurt and Lisbon opened their first international boutiques. The move also led to his designs winning awards for his industry peers and international recognition. It was in 1970 that the Grand Prix de La Ville of Geneva was first awarded. A number of other awards followed, including the De Beers Diamonds Awards.
