Auction Description

Submarine & Underwater Armor Auction 2022 by Nation's Attic Inc.
Nation’s Attic Inc. will be have their first of auction of 2022 on Saturday April 2nd, 2022. This auction consists of historic submarine memorabilia and antique diving helmets plus related equipment! The auction will be an online-only event featured on LiveAuctioneers.com, and BidSquare.com. Over 200 lots of vintage submarine memorabilia will make up the first part of the auction. The star of the show will be the only silver christening bottle cage used to launch the ill-fated USS Squalus on September 14th, 1938. During sea trials, the Squalus sank off the New Hampshire coast in 243 feet of water. Before this point, no submariner had been rescued from a downed submarine. With the national watching, 33 members of the crew were saved using the US Navy’s best divers and the latest in experimental diving & rescue equipment. Also being offered in the sale is an engraved US Navy divers’ knife that was presented to one of the USS Squalus salvage divers. Other pieces of submarine history included in the auction is a WWII battle flag from the USS Guavina, a German U-Boat tonnage flag, a large collection of individual submarine plaques, books, photos, autographs, parts off submarines, models, launching day items, original documents from the Electric Boat Company, artwork, and much more. The latter part of the auction will feature a selection of antique copper & brass diving helmets. Some of the helmets are a Miller Dunn Divinhood Style 1 and style 3, multiple US Navy Mark V helmets, helmets by Morse, Schrader, International helmets from the UK, Russia, Japan, and China. Helmets made during the second half of the 20th Century include a "Rat Hat", Miller 200, Miller 400, and an assortment of Kirby Morgan helmets! Related diving equipment including a beautiful A.J. Morse & Son dive pump will be offered. Nation’s Attic Inc. has been in business for 17 years and is the largest dealer of authentic diving helmets globally. Located in Wichita, KS, their unlikely location for such items has not hindered them from sending these pieces of diving history to all parts of the world. Discovering antique diving helmets in the most unlikely places and finding new homes for them is Nation’s Attic passion & specialty! Read more
