Auction Description

Escape to the Modernist Garden by Circa Auction

Escape to the Modernist Garden
September 12 | 9am PST

Escape to the Modernist Garden brings together a wide-ranging collection of 20th-century design with a particular emphasis on the outdoors. Garden furniture, sculptural planters, seating, tables, and architectural objects are joined by an eclectic selection of indoor furnishings, lighting, art, and decorative pieces.

Many of the works in this sale have spent decades in gardens, terraces, and homes, developing the natural patina, weathering, and signs of use that make each piece entirely unique. Rather than erasing their history, these surfaces tell it. Aged metal, worn finishes, mossy concrete, and sun-faded materials give the collection a character that could only have developed over time.

The auction features works by Alvar Aalto, André Bus, Artedi, Audoux Minet, Bernard Buffet, Brown Jordan, Charles Dudouyt, Charles Ramos, Charles and Ray Eames, Charlotte Perriand, Diego Giacometti, EMU, Eero Saarinen, Edition Castellaneta, Edition Lieuvin, Fasem, Gianfranco Gualtierotti, Giancarlo Vegni, Gloster, Grandon Frères, Helena Poch, Herman Miller, Heywood-Wakefield, Ilmari Tapiovaara, J. Mackie, J.L. Møllers Møbelfabrik, Jacob Kielland Brandt, Jacques Blin, Jacques Adnet, James Mountford, John Saladino, John Salterini, Jørgen Høj, Josef Hoffmann, Keith Haring, Knoll, Le Selou, Louis Sognot, Maison Regain, Mario Papperzini, Mathieu Matégot, Milanda Havlova, Niels Otto Møller, Noe Raya, Olavi Hänninen, Paul Klee, Philippe Henri Noyer, Pierre Gauthier-Delaye, Pierre Guariche, Poul Cadovius, Poul Kjærholm, René Gabriel, René Malaval, Robert Rauschenberg, Roche Bobois, Roger Capron, Roger Féraud, SCE, Salvador Dalí, Silas Seandel, Simi Dabah, Steph Simon Gallery, Taller Uno, Tito Agnoli, VEST, Vitra, Willy Guhl, Willy Rizzo, Woodard, and others.

From iconic modernist design to unusual, one-of-a-kind finds, Escape to the Modernist Garden celebrates pieces that have grown more interesting with age.

The Buyer must pay the hammer price plus a buyer’s premium as specified in the auction materials, plus applicable sales tax. Title transfers only after full payment has been received and cleared. Invoices are due within 72 hours upon receipt unless otherwise stated. Circa Auction LLC reserves the right to cancel a sale, reopen bidding, or reoffer a lot if payment is not received within the required timeframe.

4. Item Removal & Storage. Payment and pickup must occur within ten (10) days of the sale, at the Buyer’s cost and risk. Circa Auction LLC is not responsible for items left on-site past that period. Items unclaimed after ten (10) days are subject to storage fees: $25 per lot per day. If items remain uncollected for 21 days, they are considered abandoned and may be resold under Circa Auction LLC’s standard terms. Buyers are responsible for any shortfall between the original price and resale proceeds, plus associated fees and any legal or collection costs. Circa Auction LLC is not responsible for loss, theft, or damage to items once the designated pickup period has expired. All risk of loss transfers to the Buyer at the fall of the hammer.

5. Abandonment Liability. By bidding, the Buyer waives claims against Circa Auction LLC regarding abandoned property (e.g., refund demands or damage claims). Circa Auction LLC does not insure items after the designated pick-up period; any loss or damage is the Buyer’s responsibility.

6. Auctioneer Disclosure & Legal Compliance.
