Auction Description

Icons of Modern Design by Circa Auction

Icons of Modern Design
May 2nd at 9am PST

Circa Auction is pleased to present Icons of Modern Design, a tightly curated offering of exceptional 20th Century works, with a strong emphasis on rare and distinctive pieces sourced throughout France.

This sale brings together an international roster of designers whose work continues to define the language of modernism. Highlights include sculptural forms by Willy Guhl, refined French craftsmanship from Charlotte Perriand, and enduring design statements by Pierre Chapo, Michel Ducaroy, and Roger Capron. Scandinavian and American perspectives are equally represented, with works by Ilmari Tapiovaara, Adrian Pearsall, and Milo Baughman.

From architectural seating and case pieces to ceramic works, lighting, and garden elements, the collection reflects a thoughtful balance of form, material, and provenance. Pieces by Eero Aarnio, Franco Albini, Gio Ponti, and Warren Platner further underscore the breadth of the offering.

As always, the sale is anchored by Circa’s continued focus on European modernism, with a particular depth in French design. Many of the works presented are one of a kind or seldom seen on the market, selected for their character, craftsmanship, and relevance within the broader design canon.

The auction will be held live on May 2nd at 9am PST. We invite you to register and explore the full catalog.
