Anselm Kiefer

German, b.1945. Anselm Kiefer is a contemporary artist who employs painting, sculpture, photography and wood cuts to explore mythology and German history. As part of the Neo-Expressionism movement, Kiefer incorporates natural materials into his paintings and sculptures and uses acid, fire, and other tools to distress his works. His later work has expanded beyond Germany's history to its current place on the international stage.
